Roshi Mikolaj Uji Markiewicz

Uji - Hossenshiki

Mikołaj Uji (pronounced „Uji”) Markiewicz is a student and Dharma heir of Zen master Jakusho Kwong Roshi, abbot of Sonoma Mountain Zen Center. In 2015 he received transmission, and in 2016 he became abbot of Buddhist Zen Community „Kannon”. He holds the title of Zen master. He is also one of four hoshis (teachers) in our sangha.

  • Uji has been an active member of Buddhist Zen Community „Kannon” since its founding, i.e. since 1988. He is also active in the Polish Buddhist Union.
  • He participates in retreats and co-leads meditations organized by Christian groups – including the Benedictines from Lubiń, and the Melete Center.
  • Together with the community of Christian meditators associated with the monastery in Lubiń, he initiated regular and open-to-all meditations for the intention of harmony and peace. He engages in interfaith dialogue and is the initiator of meetings in our sangha, in which representatives of many religions participate – Buddhism, Christianity, Islam.
  • He supports and participates in street meditations initiated by the Kannon sangha – Silence for Climate.
